Steve at work

I have been a financial adviser since 1996. After a stint as a manager in the mortgage market, I became an investment and pension specialist in 2005. I launched Stonegate Wealth Management in 2015 and we moved into our current home in 2019.

On a day-to-day basis, I am talking to clients. This could be to review the objectives we are working towards or to deal with a change in circumstances. I am also responsible for the smooth running of the business, ensuring we deal with client work in a timely and regulatory compliant manner.

Qualifications

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s an old cliché but working with clients to achieve their aspirations. There is no better feeling when I see a client confident enough to retire based on the advice we have provided.

The important stuff

Firms and individuals must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to carry out regulated financial service activities. You can view my FCA registration here.

All financial advisers and planners in the UK must meet certain professional standards and requirements set out by the FCA. One of these requirements is to hold a Statement of Professional Standing (SPS).

You can view my SPS here.

Get to know Steve

What is your ideal weekend?

My ideal weekend is a cold, wet and windy walk in the Peak District, with a warm, dry pub at the end of it!

Do you support any teams?

From a distance, Huddersfield Town FC. I was born in the town but don’t get to see them play very often, which is probably a good thing with the way they are playing at the moment!

Who is your hero?

My formative years were the 90s, so my music taste is firmly in “Brit pop”. My favourite band of the time is Shed 7 and I still see them play live whenever I can. I have been known to have my picture taken with them whenever I can!

What’s your favourite part of the world?

I lived in South Africa when I was a child and love the country. I haven’t been for a long time but would love to visit again soon.

What one thing can instantly make your day better?

Listening to one of my kids tell a joke. They are always terrible, but they always get a laugh.

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

Travel by train along the US-Canada border and then drive a convertible down the West Coast, finishing at the Golden Gate Bridge.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Always deliver what you promise.
